Who we are

Square One Chess is focused on introducing chess to the youth through engaging activities both in and out of school. We recognize the importance of strategy and patience and carry those principles into the classroom. Through programs such as after-school chess clubs, in-school chess clubs, one-to-one tutoring, scholastic tournaments and summer camps, Square One Chess guides young minds on their journey through chess!

Our mentors—experienced players and patient coaches—teach the rules, patterns, and strategic thinking through age-tailored lessons and fun puzzles. Students get the opportunity to participate in friendly competitions that build resilience, focus, and teamwork, so every young player can grow both on and off the board. By offering instruction and community, chess can be accessible to students who might never otherwise discover the intellectual joys and social bonds the game provides, helping schools and families strengthen concentration, sportsmanship, and analytical skills.
