  • Intermediate chess classes for students, limited to 8 students per class. Small groups are designed to prepare students for tournament play and enhance their over the board capabilities. Participants will have the opportunity to work on finding blind spots with the coach and their peers. Topics such as piece placement, endgames, pawn structures, exchanges and more will be taught.

    $20 per class or $60 for four classes

    FREE 100 puzzle activity book after 4 classes

    FREE USCF rated tournament for students that are enrolled

    Monday nights at Deep River Recreation Center.

    First class from 6:05pm-7:00pm Second class from 7:05pm-8:00pm

  • On Saturday, April 25th, Square One Chess will be hosting a FREE unrated scholastic chess tournament for grades K-5. This is a chance to win medals and trophies!

    The tournament will be held at Southwest Elementary School in Guilford County. Address: 4372 SW School Rd, High Point, NC 27265

    The tournament will consist of 4 rounds. Doors will open at 9:30am and the first round will start at 10am

    After all 4 rounds are complete a simultaneous exhibition will be held for students who would like to participate in games against the coaches. Sign-ups for the exhibition will be on-site.

  • Join Square One Chess this summer for an amazing and chess filled week!

    Located at Kernersville Community House, Square One Chess will be hosting a chess centered summer camp for rising 1st through rising 8th grade. Patient, dedicated and well trained coaches will provide in depth lessons, analysis and gameplay to increase students' chess understanding over the course of four days. Our venue has outdoor space, ensuring that students are able to engage in classic summer activities between study time and play time.

    This summer camp will feature one week for each age group. The first week, June 15-18, will be for rising 1st through 5th grade. These students will freshen up on the basics, play through entire games, become comfortable with tactics and engage in friendly tournaments. Coaches will ensure that students are in an environment allowing them to study lessons appropriate to their skill level, from beginner to advanced, and that they're comfortable with the material that's covered before advancing.

    The second week, June 22-25, will be for rising 6th through 8th grade. Students will study material that leans into a deeper understanding of chess. This includes, endgames, positional play, assessing positions and more. Coaches will work closely with students to advance their play and prepare them for tournaments.

    Affordability is incredibly important to the heart of Square One Chess. Being available to as many families as possible is crucial to our employees, students and families. This 4 day summer camp, meeting from 8:30am to 3:30pm, is available for only $130! Lunch and snacks are NOT provided. Bottled waters will be provided.

    A non-refundable deposit of $20 per student MUST be made to reserve your space. This deposit will be applied to the total cost if the summer camp is attended. If your reservation is cancelled by Square One Chess you will receive a full refund, including deposit.
